IIT is all set to conduct Graduate Aptitude Test Examination (GATE 2015 )
on January 31, February 1, 7 and 8, 2015. GATE is held for testing the
comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in
engineering and science.
GATE is an Online Computer Based Test (CBT) for 22 papers. The online paper will have some questions, the numerical answers for the same must be keyed in by the candidate using the virtual keypad. All the remaining questions would be in multiple choice question format.
At this juncture aspirants might be busy preparing for the exam and making handy capsule notes which can be referred to a day before the exam. To minimise the exam pressure, here are some preparation strategies from last year GATE toppers which will surely help the candidates to sail through the exam pressure easily.
Name: Ankit Goyal
All India GATE Rank : 1
Department /Stream : Electrical Engineering
Preparing Strategy: "I started my preparation from month of October and just brushed up my weaker areas and then from December onwards I was more focused on problem solving and practicing mock tests."
Suggestions: "The only tips that I would like to give is that follow your own path but whatever you do or study you must be fully committed to that as the secret to success in GATE is not a brilliant mind but rather a hard-working mentality and constant honing of you skills which comes from practice."
Books for GATE students: "Students can refer to any book or study material for that matter as they can easily find the topics covered in GATE curriculum anywhere but more focus should be laid on making short notes which are helpful in revision of any subject."
Name: Saurabh Sarda
All India GATE Rank : 3
Department /Stream: Computer Science and Engineering
Preparing Strategy: "I started preparing for GATE exam in June, 2013 and joined a coaching centre for a help. Due to paucity of time i choose weekend classroom coaching and prepared for the exam during weekends only. It is very important to clear all your doubts and queries from the faculty members or anyone who is helping you with your preparations."
Suggestions: "The only suggestion I would like to give is to be consistent in your studies and practice a lot."
Any books you would like to recommend for GATE students: "All the standard text books that are available, sectional tests and previous GATE question are sufficient to get a good score in GATE."
Name : Rucha Kulkarni
All India GATE Rank: 4
Department /Stream: Computer Science and Engineering
Preparing Strategy: "My strategy was to complete 1 subject with each FLT and revise all the subjects studied previously.
I started studying for the exam in October. All syllabus was completed by Mid Jan. Then I revised everything again and solved as many papers as I could get."
Suggestions:
"People from the CS branch giving cs gate paper should attend all college classes regularly. If you feel the need for extra coaching, go for it. Practice a lot before the main gate paper. Solve a good test series seriously. Set goals before each test. For example, I aimed scoring around 5 marks more than the previous test. This ensures I improve but don't get too intimidated.
Start understanding the concepts of all subjects as blindly memorizing formula or theory won't help at all. GATE questions are complicated enough to test your understanding and not your memory only."
